Add color around the roots of urban trees
Guerrilla gardening is the act of planting flowers, herbs, or greenery in overlooked or unused spaces, often in urban environments where nature is limited.
Whether it’s a sidewalk crack, an empty lot, or a forgotten corner, these small acts can bring beauty, color, and life back into the city. It doesn’t require a backyard or a big plan, just a willingness to start small and make something grow.
Look for an overlooked or underused area that could benefit from a little life. Sidewalk cracks, empty lots, and neglected corners are all great places to start.
Pick plants that are native to your area and suited to the environment you’ve chosen. Native plants will thrive, require less maintenance, and support the local ecosystem.
Use seeds, small plants, or seed bombs to introduce greenery into your chosen space. Work with what’s already there, and avoid disrupting the area too much.
Once your plants are in place, let nature take over. You can check back in if you’d like, but guerrilla gardening is often about quiet, low-maintenance impact.
Be mindful of your community. Choose low-traffic areas and avoid causing harm.
Only use native species of plants that support, not hurt, local wildlife and ecosystems.
Keep the space clean and let your plants do the talking. Leave nothing behind but seeds.
